 NHS Thanet Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) plans and buys wheelchair services for patients across Kent and Medway on behalf of the eight CCGs. In April 2017 the eight CCGs awarded a contract to Millbrook Healthcare to provide these services.

Over the years it has emerged that not all treatments routinely offered by the NHS are effective or good value for money. We have to ensure we spend the money available to us to achieve maximum benefit for our population.

Therefore, we have a thorough and meticulous process, led by doctors and other health professionals, to review the evidence for specific treatments, and put in place criteria if appropriate.

Community groups are being invited to apply for cash to support their work.

Involving Medway, an initiative set up by Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), is inviting groups to apply for up to £1,500 of funding to pay for activities that will encourage people to lead more active, involved lives.

Commenting on the news that Lesley Dwyer, Chief Executive of Medway NHS Foundation Trust, has resigned to take up the role of Chief Executive of the Central Adelaide Local Health Network, Dr Peter Green, Clinical Chair at Medway Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We would like to thank Lesley for her time at Medway Maritime hospital and wish her the very best for the future. She has made a significant contribution to the trust’s turnaround which led to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) removing it from ‘special measures’ last year.

As seeing a GP becomes increasingly difficult, Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is looking at proposals to improve access to GPs and other primary care practitioners, including offering weekend and evening appointments.

A GP’s efforts to improve her community’s mental health have been recognised by the Queen.

Dr Farnaaz Sharief, Clinical Lead for Mental Health at Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2018 birthday honours list.

NHS England and Public Health England have today (16th May 2018) announced £667,000 of new funding for suicide prevention across Kent and Medway.

The investment, announced today by the Department for Health and Social Care, Public Health England, and NHS England, marks the start of a three year programme worth £25 million that will reach the whole country by 2021.

Dying Matters Awareness Week 14th – 20th May

As part of the annual Dying Matters awareness week, the NHS in Swale and Medway are encouraging local community organisations to talk about their end of life wishes – from where how they would choose to live their last days, to how they want friends and family to remember them. The campaign aims to break down the fear and taboo associated with death, dying and bereavement and get people talking more openly.

Medway CCG Small Grants Scheme are showing how local people can lead action in their communities to improve health and wellbeing. This film shows how the grants are making a difference.

NHS staff, voluntary and community groups have gathered together to celebrate best practice in healthcare in Medway.
